Dr Szalay graduated with honours from the University of Sydney. Following his Intern year, Dr Szalay obtained the Part 1 Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. Dr Szalay subsequently obtained surgical experience in teaching hospitals in Sydney and Perth with 2 years of basic surgical training as a surgical resident and then senior surgical resident. Following this he spent 3 and a half years as a surgical registrar. Dr Szalay has subsequently obtained training in cosmetic surgery centres in the U.S.A. and Australia and founded Precision Cosmetic Surgery in 2004.

Dr Szalay has actively sought out world experts in cosmetic surgery and has received training from the following internationally recognised leaders in their fields:
