Enhance your appearance with dermal fillers
DR Szalay uses dermal fillers can be used to soften lines, wrinkles, folds and scars. In addition, dermal fillers can replace volume which may have been lost with age in areas such as the lips, cheeks, and temples. Women with naturally small lips can also use dermal fillers for lip enhancement.
Dr Szalay has performed several thousand dermal filler treatments.
Dermal fillers are made of a substance which occurs naturally in the human body and they provide an immediate result.
Dermal fillers can have the following uses:
The lips can become thinner with natural ageing, and lose definition. As this occurs, the lips may look small or deflated in comparison to the rest of the face. Some patients complain of the lips appearing too thin and stretched, especially when they smile. Sometimes, small lines can cause “bleeding” of lipstick.
A lip rejuvenation treatment aims to reduce lip lines and restore both definition and lost volume. Dr Szalay adds filler to lip lines thereby softening them. He also injects the filler into the lip border which improves lip definition. Dr Szalay can also inject the corners of the lips which can help drooping in that area.
Finally, Dr Szalay can inject the red part of the lips, which can replace lost volume.
Many patients are satisfied with their result when 1 ml of filler is used. Some patients like to obtain more volume with 2 mls.

Nasolabial Fold Softening
The nasolabial folds run down between the nose and the mouth. These folds become deeper with ageing as fat is lost from the cheeks and the cheeks descend.
Dr Szalay aims to soften these folds. He does this by injecting filler to the folds, making them less noticeable. Some patients with minor folds are satisfied with their results 1ml of dermal filler. Other patients may prefer 2mls or possibly more as they may have deeper folds.
Marionette Fold Softening
The marionette folds are the creases or folds at the corner of the mouth. These folds deepen with ageing and can give a downturned or “sad” appearance to the mouth.
Dr Szalay aims to soften these folds and improve the appearance of the corner of the mouth. Some patients are satisfied with their results after 1ml of dermal filler. Other patients may prefer 2mls if they have deeper folds.
Smile Line Softening
The smile lines or creases are at the sides of the mouth and are more noticeable when smiling. Dr Szalay aims to soften these lines and usually less than 1ml of dermal filler is required.
The cheeks flatten with ageing and the skin may begin to sag. Flattening of the cheeks can contribute to a worn out appearance. One reason is that eye bags can be more noticeable. Another is that younger people tend to have fuller cheeks.
Dr Szalay aims to restore youthful fullness to the cheeks. He does this by injecting filler into the area. Dr Szalay uses between 1 and 6 mls for this.
Acne Scars and other sunken scar softening
Some acne scars and other scars appear sunken. Dr Szalay uses dermal fillers to fill out the sunken areas. So this results in a smoother appearance to the skin. He normally uses only 1ml for this.
Nasal Bridge Enhancement
Dr Szalay uses dermal fillers fill in any sunken area of the nasal bridge. He also uses fillers to smooth out small bumps. Typically he only uses 1 ml for this.
Dr Szalay uses fillers can to reduce the appearance of sagging (jowls) along the jawline. He also uses them to augment “weakness” of the angle of the jaw. Dr Szalay feels this can be helpful to improve the definition of the jawline. He may use 2mls to 6mls for this purpose.
The temples may appear sunken or hollow with ageing or weight loss. Dr Szalay uses dermal fillers can be used to restore youthful fullness to this area. He will typically use from from 2mls to 4 mls for this purpose.
Sometimes the chin may appear recessed. Dr Szalay feels that chin augmentation can improve a persons “side on” profile. So he uses dermal fillers as a non-invasive method of chin enhancement. Dr Szalay will typically use from from 2mls to 4 mls for this purpose.
What can I expect from the dermal filler treatment?
Dr Szalay often uses an injection is used to numb the area to be treated. The dermal filler used is also mixed with local anaesthetic during the manufacturing process. So this improves the comfort of the procedure.
You will see immediate results but some swelling may occur. You can usually return to normal activities straight away but sometimes the red part of the lips can bruise.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Dr Szalay uses a new generation dermal filler which is cross-linked and FDA approved for longer lasting results.
He finds the results can last from 6 to 24 months depending on the thickness of the product and where it is placed. Dr Szalay notices that lip volume enhancement usually lasts closer to 6 months because it is an area constantly moving. He finds that lip line, nasolabial and marionette area treatments usually last about 6 to 12 months. Because Dr Szalay is able to use a thicker product, cheek, temple and jawline enhancement usually lasts about 12 to 24 months.
