A minimally invasive necklift can tighten your neckline and produce a younger, more refreshed look
Rejuvenation of the neck is one of the most common reasons why patients consult Dr Szalay. A minimally invasive necklift is an excellent method of neck rejuvenation.
Over time, our necks are naturally subjected to the forces of gravity and the skin tends to sag or become wrinkled. Sometimes, excess fat can accumulate, resulting in a ‘double chin’. Fortunately, a number of options are available at Precision Cosmetic Surgery which can significantly improve the appearance of the neck:
- Liposuction is an excellent technique for removing excess fat beneath the chin or around the jowls. Over the age of 40 however, this usually needs to be combined with a minimally invasive neck lift or face lift.
- A minimally invasive neck lift provides an excellent result for laxity of the upper and lower neck when there is excess skin. Because the direction of the lifting may move up on to the face, the Lift-Plus Neck may need to be combined with the Lift-Plus Face ( minimally invasive facelift)
How does the minimally invasive necklift work?
Multiple fine biocompatible sutures are used to lift and support sagging skin and muscle of the neck. The sutures are looped to the sagging muscle layer beneath the skin. The other ends of the sutures are anchored to firm tissue behind the ear or at the back of the scalp, lifting and holding the muscle in the correct position, restoring firmness to the neck. Excess skin is removed by an incision which is carefully placed along the hairline in order to hide it.
The main advantage this technique has over conventional neck lifts is that less undermining of skin is required. This reduces bleeding and bruising and helps skin healing and recovery time.
How long does it take to heal?
A compression bandage must be worn for three days. After three days, you can remove the bandage, wash your hair and apply antibiotic ointment. Sutures are removed after 7 days and most patients are able to return to work after 14 days.
How much does it cost?
The initial consultation with Dr Szalay is $75.00. The Lift-Plus Neck costs $7990 (includes hospital and anaesthetist fees, based on a 2 hour procedure.)
Please note that in some patients it is not possible to do the neck lift without also lifting the face. This is because of the direction of the lift as well as excess skin. More information on the minimally invasive necklift can be found here.
