The outcomes shown above are only relevant for this patient and do not necessarily reflect
the results other patients may experience, as results may vary due to many factors including the individual’s genetics.

How is the eyelid surgery procedure performed?

Eyelid surgery is performed under twilight sedation.

Dr Szalay removes excess skin or fat from the upper eyelid. He does this by making a small incision in the upper eyelid, which heals with time to leave a thin white line.

Preparing for eyelid surgery

You need to avoid the following for three weeks leading up to the procedure. This is because they cause bleeding.

  • Aspirin, nurofen and other anti inflammatories
  • Vitamin E and fish oil
  • Alcohol

More detailed pre-operative instructions are provided at your initial consultation.

How long is the recovery period?

Swelling and bruising can occur following the procedure. So most patients feel comfortable facing the general public again after 10 days.

We remove the sutures after 6 or 7 days

Some swelling can persist for some weeks following the surgery and it may be a few months  before the final result is seen.

Dr Szalay will discuss what to expect during your recovery as part of your consultation and we will provide you with detailed pre and post operative instructions.

Treatment costs

  • The initial consultation with Dr Szalay costs $75.00
  • Upper eyelid surgery costs $2200. Hospital and anesthetist fees will also apply.

Please be aware that if you have excess skin on the outer part of your upper eyelids, you may need a brow lift instead of, or as well as, upper eyelid surgery. This is because the brow controls the skin at the corner of your eyes. So Dr Szalay will examine your brow during your consultation.

Risks

As with any surgery, there are possible risks involved with eyelid surgery.

Dr Szalay will discuss these during your consultation. A list of possible risks is here

Dr. Szalay does his utmost to prevent negative side effects. Please read the pre and post operative instructions that we provide you with carefully and contact us anytime if you have any questions or concerns.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner
